Depression is not just a common illness, it can’t be underestimated, Up to 20% of the world population is affected, and the numbers seem to be continuously increasing. It is not always easy to distinguish a “difficult period” from actual depressive symptoms. At the early stages, it is very often that the person affected is too ashamed to admit what is really going on.

It often begins with some simple moods swing, feeling sad for no specific reason, Negative perception of events and If left untreated, these symptoms can develop into a purely clinical condition that can lead to the appearance of Depressed mood all day, Inability to experience pleasure during normal rewarding activities, Sleep disorders, having thoughts on suicide, tiredness, fatigue, lack of energy, Feeling of failure and uselessness.

  1. Dear Evelyn,

I am really shocked to know about the stat you shared on the people affected by depression (20% is a big percentage).

Once I was doing some research on depression I read about 7 percent of men and 1 percent of women who have ever been diagnosed with depression die by suicide. Depression is becoming a serious issue and people are struggling to handle it.

In this helpful and informative article you not only discussed the problems caused by depression but you have also provided with the helpful solutions. The great news is those recommendations are easy, doable, natural and herbal remedies. I am planning to share this post with my church youth group.

Great information, you have really given a lot of value here.

    Much Success!

    Paul

  2. Hi Evelyn

This is a really great post. I particularly like the stressing of natural approaches.

I work away from home during the week and it’s often tough to deal with the separation, loneliness, and isolation. It’s not far from home, but far enough not to be home every night.

I find exercise, good diet and when I am away, taking time for myself are necessary.

One thing to absolutely avoid…alcohol. Nothing makes you feel worse than feeling sad AND sick. Alcohol is a natural depressant, which will dig the sadness hole deeper. Even if you drink with friends, you always end the night alone (in your own head).

    Best regards

    Dave

  3. I’m glad to see a website that is willing to address depression. As you point out in this article. Depression is much more widespread than many people believe. Even the bullying often seen on social media contributes to depression in some people!

Though I luckily don’t suffer from depression, I have tried St. John’s Wort. It seemed to improve my mood somewhat, at the time.

Hopefully, people with depression will feel less stigmatized in the future as the condition becomes more understood by the general public.
